Recognizing the hole in the sidewalk!

My yoga teacher read this poem the other night; I thought it was great -- it's by Portia Nelson

Autobiography in Five Short Chapters
Chapter 1
I walk down the street.
There is a deep hole in the sidewalk.
I fall in.
I am lost… I am helpless.
It isn’t my fault.
It takes forever to find a way out.

Chapter 2
I walk down the street.
There is a deep hole in the sidewalk.
I pretend that I don’t see it.
I fall in again.
I can’t believe I am in this same place.
But, it isn’t my fault.
It still takes a long time to get out.

Chapter 3
I walk down the same street.
There is a deep hole in the sidewalk.
I see it is there.
I still fall in … it’s a habit … but, my eyes are open.
I know where I am.
It is my fault.
I get out immediately.

Chapter 4
I walk down the same street.
There is a deep hole in the sidewalk.
I walk around it.

Chapter 5
I walk down another street.

Can anyone else relate to this? I think the key is seeing the habit of falling in the hole .....

musings?

Obviously, I find it close to impossible to write here! Yesterday had a wonderful day with my DD ..... shopping at Loehmanns, lunch at Neimans (free $50 gift card!) and drooling at the Chanel and Manolo Blahniks. I'm trying to teach her to look at the expensive stuff and then buy on ebay!

I had a wonderful friend/cousin-by-marriage who passed away a few years ago who taught me so much about fashion. Tina drummed it into my brain: good shoes and bag! When I spied a pair of shoes at H&M yesterday, Carly said, "Mommy, don't! Tina would be turning over in her grave!" So Tina is always that person looking over our shoulders when we shop.

(Tina, Heather and I)

I think it continues to be a frustration for me to have such great clothes and honestly, I could come to work in pajamas and no one would notice!

I always feel a bit silly posting here as no one is reading it!! Wonderful Saturday, spent at the beach with family, my husband's cousins and their two adorable daughters! Tonight my husband and daughter are leaving for a few days, he to a new job and she to her cousins for a week. As much as I like my time alone, I like it so much more when they are in the house with me and I can just duck into my bedroom for an hour or two. I will miss them!

In other news, my RM MAM bag arrived and is in a box on my desk ..... I am dying to open it but don't want to in front the co-workers .... silly of me in a way but I feel guilty spending money. (And it's none of their business anyway!!)

I'll try to post pics!!

So I haven't been very good at this posting thing, I can tell you that! It's kind of hard to be motivated when it's not clear if anyone is reading! This weekend is a bit of an example of doing things for obligation reasons: 3 (!) dance recitals, where honestly, most of the time my DD and I are hanging around together waiting for her to go on for her 3 minute dance. And tomorrow morning, I agreed to volunteer at the Pancake Breakfast at the lake (we are part of a lake association -- we've been living there for 20 years and I've never gotten around to getting involved). I'm kind of into the volunteering gig, but honestly, I don't know that many people and have never felt a "part" of this community. It's a great place, but since I've always worked, I was never able to take advantage of the weekday activities and that is where all the women meet each other. I've always wanted to work, but maybe I'm a bit resentful about not being able to hang out on the beach all summer!

I've been wanting to cook this weekend too. I just got a recipe from Mark Bittman's site for Tofu Chocolate pudding -- don't say yuck until you've tried it!

Recipe

Mexican Chocolate Tofu Pudding

Time: 10 minutes, plus 30 minutes’ chilling

3/4 cup sugar

1 pound silken tofu

8 ounces high-quality bittersweet or semisweet chocolate, melted

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 1/2 teaspoons ground cinnamon

1/2 teaspoon chili powder, or more to taste

Chocolate shavings (optional).

1. In a small pot, combine sugar with 3/4 cup water; bring to a boil and cook until sugar is dissolved, stirring occasionally. Cool slightly.

2. Put all ingredients except for chocolate shavings in a blender and purée until completely smooth, stopping machine to scrape down its sides if necessary. Divide among 4 to 6 ramekins and chill for at least 30 minutes. If you like, garnish with chocolate shavings before serving.

Yield: 4 to 6 servings.

anyone else up to making this?
